Corrales, New Mexico
The design of this home began after our clients purchased an old adobe home in Corrales, NM. The building had been flooded numerous times and was in need of structural repairs as well as updating the layout of the floor plan. Traditional adobe homes were built one room at a time. This meant that you walked through one bedroom to get to the next.
There were numerous changes to the internal walls to make the house more functional but the most noticeable change was externally. Numerous outdoor portals were created around the perimeter of the house. Double doors replaced the small windows which allow access from the new bedrooms to the portals.
